New Report: Rising Medical Liability Costs a Contributing Factor to Imminent Health Care Crisis in Pennsylvania

As previously predicted, rising medical liability costs – fueled in part by the Supreme Court’s reversal of Pennsylvania’s med mal venue rule – are negatively impacting hospitals throughout the Commonwealth. A recent report commissioned by the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania found that the state is headed towards a health care crisis if the status quo remains.

The report found that increasing medical liability premiums are a contributing factor to the financial strain hospitals throughout the Commonwealth are facing. Specifically, the report notes that “Pennsylvania has the highest malpractice payout per capita of any state at $43 per resident, with total payments of $557 million in 2024.”

PCCJR continues to advocate for medical malpractice liability reform nd the reinstatement of the medical liability venue rule. You can view the report in its entirety here.
