Harrisburg- Today, the Pennsylvania Coalition for Civil Justice Reform (PCCJR) released its first-ever voter education guide for a legislative election cycle that includes scorings for all members of the General Assembly and the governor’s race. The guide, along with completed candidate questionnaires, is available on the PCCJR webpage.
“Legislative elections directly impact your chance of getting sued,” said PCCJR Executive Director Curt Schroder. “Does your legislator stand up for critical litigation reforms that prevent lawsuit abuse while promoting fairness, Pennsylvania’s economy and the availability of healthcare? Or do they side with the deep pockets of the trial bar? Legislators are charged with setting public policy through enacting laws which impact every Pennsylvanian, particularly in the areas of liability and civil justice.”
In 2018, Pennsylvanians will elect 203 members of the state House, half of the state Senate (25 members) and a governor. Legislative enactments in areas dealing with our litigation system impact the economy, healthcare, schools, businesses, local government, the environment and numerous other areas of policy. PCCJR believes it is important that state legislators and the governor are committed to creating a reasonable litigation atmosphere and reverse the impact of activist judicial decisions detrimental to the health of the state’s economy.
“PCCJR developed this election guide and scoring system to help voters understand which candidates will enact laws that are fair, reasonable and balanced,” added Schroder. For the first time, Pennsylvania voters can see how their legislator voted on important civil justice issues. We are also grateful to the open-seat candidates who chose to participate in the PCCJR questionnaire and hope that the voters will find this resource both informative and useful in formulating their decisions in November. It is vital that we elect legislative candidates committed to reigning in the litigation industry and ending abusive lawsuits,” concluded Schroder.
