PCCJR is sounding the alarm to warn legislators of the negative consequences a state False Claims Act (FCA) will have on the Commonwealth. In an opinion piece published on PA Townhall, PCCJR Executive Director Curt Schroder dispelled the notion that a FCA will bring additional revenue to the state’s coffers and laid out why it is both duplicative and unnecessary.
“The double recovery under a state FCA reduces the overall amount recovered for Pennsylvania taxpayers for the benefit of bounty hunting plaintiffs and their attorneys,” Schroder wrote. “Make no mistake, this double recovery will only enrich bounty hunter plaintiffs’ and their attorneys and is the real reason a duplicative state FCA is being pushed!”
In July, the state House of Representatives passed HB 1697, which would establish a state FCA. The legislation is currently awaiting consideration by the Senate. As the state budget negotiations continue and through the remainder of the legislative session, PCCJR will continue to advocate against the proposal.
