In the near future, state Senate Judiciary Chair Lisa Baker, is introducing legislation to create an Interbranch Commission to Study Venue. Baker recently circulated a co-sponsor memo to her Senate colleagues giving an overview of the planned legislation which would bring together the Executive, Judicial and Legislative branches of state government to analyze the medical liability venue problem and propose possible solutions.
PCCJR welcomes this legislative development which will allow for a thorough review of how the Supreme Court’s change to the medical liability venue rule is impacting the state’s health care sector as well as the Commonwealth’s overall legal climate. This approach was utilized in 2002 and was the basis on which the now rescinded medical liability rule was adopted.
