The Pennsylvania Senate voted 31 -18 today in favor of Senate Resolution 20. SR 20 asks the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee (LBFC) to study the impact of the proposal to change the venue rule in medical malpractice cases and urges the Supreme Court to delay any action on the rule change until the study is complete.
SR 20 was introduced by Senate Judiciary Chair, Lisa Baker, and was reported from the Judiciary Committee yesterday on a strict party line vote. The resolution requires the LBFC to hold at least one public hearing and report its findings no later than January 1, 2020.
Today’s Senate vote was more bipartisan with all Republicans present voting in favor of the resolution. They were joined by Democrats Lisa Boscola, Andrew Dinniman, and Judy Schwank.
The PCCJR and our partner organizations supported the resolution. We extend our deep appreciation and thanks to Senator Baker and every Senator who supported SR 20.
