The Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas – notably the nation’s top judicial hellhole – is home to what could be a new wave of civil litigation targeting our country’s food industry. The firm of Morgan & Morgan has chosen the City of Brotherly love to file a first of its kind lawsuit against manufacturers of “ultra-processed foods.”
The suit against a slew of food manufacturers (including Kraft Heinze, Coca-Cola, and General Mills among others) alleges that they knowingly developed “ultra processed foods” that are addictive to children leading to an increase in several chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes.
It should come as no surprise that the law firm chose to file the suit in Philadelphia. The city has long had a reputation for nuclear verdicts – which equate to a large payday for a plaintiffs’ attorney.
